A keen learner since childhood, I had observed the elders in my family with high values, and contributing in many a ways for the betterment of those in need. It got engrained in me over the years. And once I was crossed the key phases in the life of a woman, I started my philanthropic journey. With ancestral roots from the rustic Rajasthan, to my having lived in the posh capital city of India, I got an insight of various types of challenges prevalent in the rural as well as urban areas. With depleting air, water and soil quality in the noisy and overcrowded cities, I realised that a lot needs to be done in the fields of environment. Taking small & steady steps to serve, I built my network and team of volunteers through my NPO ‘NEERANJALI’, founded in 2011. Gradually, as many individuals and organisations got associated, I diversified my Social Welfare Efforts all across India.
In the diverse landscape of India, the pursuit of societal transformation through effective service delivery, became an integral part of my philanthropic endeavour. My commitment to fostering a positive change, embarked me on a journey aimed at addressing critical issues in the areas of environment, education, empowerment and health.
One by one, I delved into the vivid requirements in all these fields. What seemed to be just the initial challenges, I employed strategies to overcome them. But as I started taking one step after another, there seemed to be no end to the eye-opening lessons and learnings.
In the context of environment, rapid urbanization and industrialization have taken a toll on India's ecosystem. The need for sustainable practices and conservation initiatives became evident. Challenges include limited awareness among local communities, lack of waste management infrastructure, and the absence of a sense of ownership for natural resources. To address these issues, I initiated awareness campaigns, collaborated with local authorities for waste disposal systems, organised tree-plantation & water body cleaning drives, gradually fostering a sense of responsibility for the environment.
Education emerged as another key area, with an unequal access to quality education, hindering social progress. In underserved communities, limited resources, inadequate infrastructure, and a lack of skilled teachers are prevalent challenges. To bridge this gap, I began my involvement in the school established by my paternal side in a small village of Rajasthan. I started providing educational resources, and facilitated counselling workshops. Over time, these efforts contributed to improved learning and quality standards.
Empowerment, particularly of women and marginalized groups, is a pressing need. Gender inequality, restricted opportunities, and a lack of vocational skills hinders not only an individual’s progress but also of our motherland ‘India’. I’m in the process of launching skill development workshops, vocational training center, and self-help groups enabled individuals to gain economic independence and emerge stronger as a community that’s looked upto.
Health segment, too, comes with formidable challenges. Inspite of being a country with age old wisdom, and access to information in the digitalised 21st century, because of the laid back approach and/or the fast paced life-style, people still lack basic knowledge and wisdom. This is leading to increased physical, mental and emotional health issues.
With increasing consumption of alcohol and drugs (whether prescribed or illicit), the overall health is rapidly deteriorating. During the COVID pandemic, I started creating awareness towards better health management through the platform of AMPOWER WITH SARIKA. By collaborating with local doctors, conducting health camps and awareness campaigns, I have working relentlessly towards better living with healthier choices, because undeniably, only a healthy youth can help build a healthier nation.
As nothing worthwhile comes easily, in the early stages and even now, I too face common challenges like garnering support from the authorities and community, ensuring quality of work and sustainable solutions.
Despite being loaded with work and responsibilities, I try my sincerest best to overcome the challenges by building relationships through open communication and showcasing tangible results. Mobilizing resources involves leveraging partnerships with non-governmental organizations, local businesses and volunteers who share our vision. Sustained engagement demands continuous monitoring and evaluation, adapting strategies to evolving community needs, and maintaining a transparent approach.
In conclusion, my journey towards societal transformation has been a multifaceted endeavour with multi-prong strategies. By addressing the specific requirements of communities in the realms of environment, education, empowerment and health, I seek to catalyse positive changes. While challenges are numerous, my commitment to creating a meaningful impact drives me to develop innovative and sustainable solutions. The support I receive in the forms of appreciation, trust, respect, guidance, donations and help of any sort, infuses me with more determination on this not-so-easy journey of mine. With the extended support from great personalities and organisations like yours, I feel encouraged to make collaborative efforts, and move forth with an unwavering dedication towards social welfare. Thus, I pave the path towards a transformed society, one step at a time.
